This publication, written in conjunction with colleagues at the University of Nottingham and State University of Sao Paolo, Brazil, looked at how the Nottingham Hip Fracture Score – a risk prediction tool widely used in the UK – predicted poor outcomes in older Brazilians undergoing operation for a hip fracture. The tool was found to be more sensitive and specific than existing risk scores used by Brazilian orthopaedic teams.
This could help doctors working in Brazil to better target resources at high risk patients – who are usually older patients with more pronounced – to help improve outcomes following operations for hip fractures in the future.
