This paper describes work conducted in conjunction with Imperial College London to look at the issue of “Value Proposition” when new technologies are developed and implemented in care. We found that technology providers often spend insufficient time identifying the needs of care recipients, those who provide care, and the health and social care professionals who work with them.
The paper outlines structured approaches, such as the Health Technology Navigation Pathway Tool, that could help technology companies better match technologies to the difficulties that professionals face in practice, and that care recipients face in every day life.
This work will be important as ACHA develops themes around implementing technology to help older people with frailty and/or dementia to live more independently for longer. It is important that older people, their families, and the professionals who provide care always remain at the heart of these discussions. This article provides us with some ways to ensure that this happens.
